Illegal trade could lead to jail terms and hefty fines
DUBAI – Police in Dubai have issued a public warning against the use and trade of fireworks during Eid Al Adha celebrations, urging residents to comply with regulations and prioritise public safety.
Authorities stressed that while fireworks may appear harmless, they can quickly become a serious threat to people and property.
The reminder comes as communities across the emirate prepare for festive gatherings and holiday activities.
Safety risks
The force cautioned that fireworks can lead to severe and permanent injuries, with consequences extending far beyond temporary accidents. Officials warned that misuse may result in life-altering disabilities, including amputations, burns and the loss of body parts.
Dubai Police called on members of the public to avoid any form of dealing with fireworks or engaging with unauthorised traders. Authorities said public cooperation remains essential in ensuring a safe environment during the holiday period.
Legal action
The force also highlighted the penalties outlined under Federal Decree Law No. 17 of 2019 concerning weapons, ammunition, explosives and hazardous materials.
Under Article 54 of the law, anyone trading, importing, exporting, manufacturing, or bringing fireworks into or out of the country without a licence can face imprisonment for no less than one year and a fine of no less than Dh100,000, or either of the two penalties. Officials reiterated that strict enforcement measures remain in place throughout the festive period.
